Circulation Services Assistant
Part-Time, Evenings/Weekends)

ODU Library is currently seeking applicants to fill 1-2 
positions as Circulation Services Assistant 
(Evenings/Weekends). The successful candidate(s) will 
be proactive, dependable, energetic, and flexible, with 
a positive attitude, a willingness to continuously 
learn, and the ability to adjust to a changing 
environment.  This position is part-time, evenings and 
weekends, 15-35 hours per week, reporting to the Public 
Services Librarian.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise ODU Library’s Circulation 
Services Department during evening and weekend shifts; 
train and supervise student work staff; assist patrons 
with basic library circulation functions; perform 
building opening/closing procedures; and participate in 
the creation and implementation of circulation policies 
and procedures.  Responsibilities may also include 
creating library displays, signage, and promotional 
materials; performing interlibrary loan functions using 
OCLC ILLiad management system; and/or preparation and 
processing items for reserve using library automated 
systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree, supervisory 
experience; customer service experience; computer 
experience; excellent communication skills; ability to 
establish and maintain effective working relations with 
students, faculty, staff, and administrators; ability 
to work as a team member to establish and achieve 
library goals, and to share in the library’s 
service-oriented mission.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Academic library experience; 
library science degree or certificate preferred; 
experience with Innovative Interfaces Integrated 
Library System; familiarity with OhioLINK, ILLiad 
software, and Docutek ERes system experience.
