Please excuse multiple postings...

The State Library of Ohio and LearningExpress are pleased to announce
the availability of enhanced Flash-based Computer Skills tutorials
beginning May 4, 2009. Please read the Important Release Information in
this email to learn more about how this update will affect you and your
patrons.

The updated online tutorials will be accessible to patrons from the
Computer Skills Learning Center and will replace the previous online
versions. Here are just a few of the advantages of our updated Computer
Skills tutorials:

*	Run on any platform supporting Adobe Flash 8 or higher--includes
over 95% of all computers
*	Do not require any installation of additional proprietary
plug-ins
*	Easier to use with increased functionality
*	Contain training videos and animation with both audio and full
text captioning
*	Discussions, demos, quizzes, and assessments to track and
monitor progress
*	Interactive Practice Labs allow users to apply what they have
learned
*	Now include Microsoft Office applications tutorials for
Macintosh computers

Effective Monday, May 4, 2009, the updated tutorials will be available
to customers who subscribe to the LearningExpress Computer Skills
package and can be accessed via the Computer Skills Learning Center. The
updated tutorials will replace the existing tutorials in the Computer
Skills Learning Center automatically, so there is no action required on
your part.

 IMPORTANT RELEASE INFORMATION:

Patrons Currently Using Computer Skills Tutorials
If a patron has already added a course to My Center, he or she will
continue to have access to that version for a limited time. The actual
expiration of the course is six months after the date the patron
initially added the course. If the course was initially added on
December 5, 2008, it will expire on May 5, 2009. At the time of
expiration, he or she will receive a notice indicating that the course
has expired, which will include instructions on how to select the
upgraded version of the same course. The patron can then add the
upgraded version at any time.

Technical Requirements to Run New Tutorials

The updated courses do require that the computer running the tutorial
have Adobe Flash 8 or higher installed. Most computers running an
updated browser will have the standard Adobe Flash browser plug-in and
will require no further action. There are instructions within
LearningExpress Library to help patrons install the Flash player if
needed. To read a full list of support operating systems for Adobe
Flash 8 and up, please visit
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/systemreqs/.

Deletion of Outdated Software Tutorials
With the upgrade, tutorials covering outdated applications such as
Microsoft Office 97 and 2000, Internet Explorer 5.0, and Adobe Acrobat
6.0 will no longer be available. This does not apply to any patrons who
have already added one of these applications to their My Center areas;
these courses will expire as detailed above.

Course Content and Design
The updated tutorials will have a different look and feel since they
have been developed for use with the Adobe Flash player. With this
technology comes added user functionality. Thus, the courses have been
modified slightly to take advantage of the full functionality of Adobe
Flash. The learning objectives and information covered in the courses
remains equal to our previous courses.

Course Access
Patrons will access the courses via a search of the Computer Skills
Learning Center in LearningExpress Library and can start a course at any
time by adding it to their My Center areas. Once a course is started,
patrons can stop and start the course at will. If they choose to stop
and reenter the course at a later time, they should note their place in
the course, because upon reentry, the course will begin at the first
unit. Patrons can easily click on the unit they were working in and go
directly to where they stopped.

Patron Notifications
Patrons will receive appropriate messaging and alerts within the
Computer Skills Learning Center and in their My Center areas to help
minimize any confusion that may occur in relation to the transition.

Upgrade Date and Time
The upgrade will take place at 9:00 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday, May 3, 2009.
After the upgrade is complete, our upgraded tutorials will be
immediately available in the Computer Skills Learning Center. Although
we do not anticipate any downtime, there may be a brief interruption of
service during the upgrade process. Any work in progress will be saved.
