Fri Nov 6 13:45:49 EST 2009
Save-the-date for an extraordinary visit to the Thompson Memorial Library at The Ohio State University. Associate Professor Wes Boomgaarden will be our guide for an after-hours tour through the magnificent Main Library at Ohio State. As the Thompson Library Renovation Officer since 2000, his inside knowledge and perspective make this a one-of-a-kind opportunity. Designed in the Second Italian Renaissance Revival style, the William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library, also known as the Main Library, originally opened in 1913. The renovation to the Thompson Library -- the "centerpiece" of a plan to move Ohio State into the forefront of academic excellence -- is now complete after three years of construction and over a decade of planning. Housing significant print collections, digital information resources, spaces for individual study, and areas for interactive group learning, the building's original, unique architectural features have now been restored to their original grandeur.
WHEN: Friday, December 4, 2009 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.*
WHERE: Thompson Library, 1858 Neil Avenue Mall, 43210
The Ohio State University Main Campus
614-292-6785
* We will gather at the East entrance between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. The Library closes at 6:00 p.m. so entry after 6:00 pm is not possible - be sure to arrive at the Main Library's East entrance before 6:00 p.m.

Presenter Wes Boomgaarden
Wes Boomgaarden is Associate Professor and Preservation Officer at the University Libraries at The Ohio State University. In 2000 he was appointed as the Thompson Library Renovation Officer, a position he has held, in addition to his preservation management duties, through the end of the Thompson effort in late 2009. Prior to his appointment at Ohio State in 1984, Wes served on the staff of Macalester College Library, the Minnesota Historical Society Library and the New York Public Library. He has written extensively on library materials preservation management, and teaches that course at the Kent State University School of Library & Information Science program in Columbus.
We will also take this opportunity to honor two special past officers of CO-ASIS&T: Betty Sawyers and Ted Morris.
We look forward to meeting at the Thompson Library on Friday, December 4th!
