A couple other possibilities:
Through the State Library of Ohio, staff members in Ohio libraries or
library organizations may take WebJunction courses for free. Your staff
member will have to register with WebJunction to take any of these
courses. To get started, look at the course list at
http://oh.webjunction.org/catalog. Sign up under "My Account" in the
right-hand section of the page. Be sure to review the FAQ below "My
Account" before registering for courses. There are over 400 courses
available in customer service, management, application software, web
design and development, and much more. A small number of the courses
focus on youth services, including "Planning Story Times", "Accompanying
the Young Reader" "Reaching Teenagers", "Multicultural Literature for
Children & Young Adults", "Reaching Reluctant Readers", and several
others.
The Idaho Commission for Libraries offers Alternative Basic Library
Education (ABLE), a series of courses for staff members who have no
formal education in library science. The basic courses include a public
service sequence (http://libraries.idaho.gov/page/able) and supplemental
courses include a youth services sequence
(http://libraries.idaho.gov/page/sable). While these courses are part
of a larger CE program in Idaho, anyone may access and benefit from the
online tutorials.
And while these aren't specific to youth services, Ohio Library Council
offers online tutorials of value for all public library staff including
Orientation (for new staff members), ORE on the Web (reference skills),
and Marketing the Library. Details and links:

All of the above are self-paced - and free!
Sincerely,
Janet

Subject: [OPLINLIST] web-based children's courses
Can anyone recommend a source for good web-based courses for children's
librarians? These do not have to be MLS courses. Thanks in advance!
