You are invited to join us for the first CO-ASIS&T Program of 2010:

"The Open Access Community and OAIster" Featuring Presenter Michelle Harper

What is OAIster? It's actually a catalog of millions of digital resources from thousands of contributors around the world. OAIster was built by harvesting from open archive collections using the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). The result provides access to digitized books, articles, and text, audio & video files, photographic images, theses and research papers. Today, OAIster boasts more than 23 million records representing digital resources from over 1,100 contributors. Join us for a discussion of this important free resource and what it means for information seekers worldwide.

Michelle Harper is Director of Special Collections at OCLC with responsibilities for managing OAIster and ArchiveGrid. Prior to joining OCLC, Michelle was the director of product management for NewsBank and has worked in the information industry for other library providers, including Gale and ProQuest, in various positions. Michelle holds masters degrees in history and English from the University of Michigan and the University of Virginia respectively, and attended the College of William and Mary as an undergraduate.
