Mary Jane,

In doing some research to determine how Wayne County compares to other libraries, one of the statistics I compiled recently was the percentage of our operating expenditures spent on the collection in 2009.  I compared us in two different ways, population of our service area and operating revenue received.  The data is that reported to the state for the 2009 annual report.

By my figuring, the state average in 2009 was 13.59% of operating expenditures was expended on collections.

Please share with me what percentage of your library's general fund is spent on materials.  The "standard" of 20% seems to be getting more and more unattainable.  I am more interested in what percentage of your general fund is REALLY spent on materials.
