The Geauga county Public Library has an opening for a genealogist who will
be based at Chardon Library but have system-wide responsibilities.  The
Anderson Allyn Room at the Chardon Library has an extensive indexed
collection of materials pertaining to Geauga County history, genealogy and
local public records.


*Position: Genealogist

*Library: Chardon Library (Geauga County Public Library)

*Hours per week: 24

*Starting hourly wage: $13.00


*Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree.  Excellent customer service and reference skills. 
Experience with genealogical and archival materials such as census
records, military service records, birth, marriage, divorce, and death
records, obituaries, probate court records, property records, ancestor
charts and family group sheets.  Knowledge of innovations in genealogical
and archival services, including digital imaging and scanning
technologies.  Strong competence in computer skills and the Internet,
including awareness of online genealogical resources, databases, and web
sites.   Ability to decipher handwritten manuscripts, poor quality printed
materials, old photographs and microfilmed documents.  Organized and
meticulous in both record-keeping and documentation.  Excellent in oral
and written communication, including public speaking and presentation
skills.  Ability to form partnership relationships with other groups and
organizations.


*Summary of duties:

Provides system-wide genealogy and local history reference services. 
Provides programming and training for the public and staff throughout the
GCPL system.  Partners with other genealogy and local history groups and
organizations.  Oversees work of volunteers.


*Scheduling needs: Must be able to work a varied schedule which includes
days, evening, Saturdays and Sundays.


*Reports to: Head of Adult Services, Chardon Library


*Deadline: Position open until filled;  applications received by April 9,
2011, will receive first consideration.
