[OPLINLIST] Does anyone know this book title?

Hi everyone!

I have a patron that is looking for a particular book that he once read. 
He is pretty sure it's by Louis L'Amour and the story is about a fur 
trapper named Jacob. Jacob goes to Santa Fe to sell fur pelts, and meets 
and falls in love with a Mexican woman. There is also a character who is 
a senator, and part of the story is about the Mexican American war.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?
