*Spring Literary Arts Festival to feature World War II theme*

2011 represents the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl
Harbor and of America's entrance into World War II. This era (between
1941 and 1945) was defined on the home front by many images, such as
blackouts, civilian support for the war effort, women in the workforce,
rationing, scrap drives, Victory Gardens, propaganda, music, dance, and
Hollywood glamour.

This patriotic age will spring to life this April in McArthur,
Ohio, when */A Spring Literary Arts Festival---On the Home Front:
Rivets, Rations, and Romance/* takes on these themes through displays,
exhibits, writing, speakers, dance, live music, cuisine and more. The
Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library and the Friends of the Library will
host their seventh annual Spring Literary Arts Festival on April 4-17.

Main events will begin on Friday night, April 15 with /*The
Stars and Stripes Club Casino Night*/. 1940's costumes are encouraged
but not required for this evening of high-spirited celebration. This
event will feature casino games, food, a cash bar and dancing. The
Jitterbug Club of Athens, Ohio will also perform an exhibition dance.

Saturday events on April 16 will feature keynote presentations
by /New York Times/ bestselling author Sarah Blake (/The Postmistress/)
and Allan M. Winkler, Ph.D. (/Home Front U.S.A./), the announcement of
writing contest awards, a 1940's dinner, and the Z-Sharp Big Band of
Central Ohio.

The weekend activities will end on Sunday, April 17 with a
luncheon and a 1940's USO Show featuring local entertainment.

Some other activities leading up to the weekend will include a
traveling exhibit from the Money Museum, entitled /*Victory at All
Costs: Money of World War II*/, a screening of Woody Allen's film
/Radio Days/, and a panel discussion about life on the home front in the
United States.

Many events are free. However, admission is charged for some
activities, including those where food is served. Contact the library
at (740) 596-5691 for more information.
