Shaker Heights Public Library - Youth Services Manager

Shaker Heights Public Library has a full-time opening for a Youth Services Manager at its Main Library. Under general supervision, the Youth Services Manager directs the Main Library’s services to children and teens, develops and maintains the Youth Services collections, and supervises the Youth Services staff. 

We are a busy, diverse, first-ring suburban library looking for an energetic, creative, flexible team player with a passionate commitment to customer service who will be able to lead this department through a time of change and innovation. The successful candidate will be a strong, decisive leader who is collaborative and creative, with a demonstrated interest in applying new technologies to improve reference and library services for customers, who possesses a win-win disposition, and has a sense of humor. 

A Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school and three years of customer-focused work experience is required. Customer service is our number one priority and, though we value professional library experience, your commitment to quality customer service and how you deal effectively with people and foster high team performance in a time of tight funding are more important than how many years you may have worked in libraries.

The ideal candidate will have excellent reference and computer skills, as well as superior verbal and writing abilities.  Organizational, management and planning capabilities are required.  Experience working creatively with children or teens and knowledge of literature for children and teens are essential. Work with diverse populations and supervisory experience in a public library are a plus. This position works a variety of day, evening, and weekend hours.
