We have an exciting day planned this year. We will start the day off with first time author Victoria Brown who was one of Library Journal's editor's spring pick for 2011. Victoria is the author of Minding Ben "an engaging eye-opening debut novel that takes us into the inner world for West Indian nannies."(LJ February 15, 2011). She is sure to be a delight for everyone.
Barry Trott, Adult Services Director, Williamsburg Regional Library is back presenting True Stories: Developing skills in nonfiction Readers' Advisory Nonfiction readers are as important to the library as fiction readers. Working with narrative nonfiction titles has some similarities to working with fiction. This session will look at using appeal to work with nonfiction readers; building RA skills in nonfiction areas such as travel, food, science, history, and spirituality; and includes a hands-on exercise in developing readalikes in nonfiction areas.
In addition Barry will also have a session titled Web 2.0 and Beyond: From Facebook to GoodReads to the thousands of bloggers talking about books reading has a large presence on the web. This session will look at developing a library book blog, both the structure and the writing, social media and readers' advisory, and the library catalog as a readers' advisory tool.
You will hear how Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library has developed partnerships within their community through local books stores and groups to expose their library patrons to local authors.
Tuscarawas County Public Library will teach us how to Skype with authors for book discussion groups and other events.
Lastly you will hear from two local authors one being a past library staff member.
