Good morning,
The Collaborative Summer Library Program had its annual
meeting/conference last week. For the first time, all 50 states are
participating in the CSLP (Texas is the most recent to join). Several
important decisions about upcoming programs were made at this meeting.
Of particular interest:
The artists for the 2013 "Underground" programs have been announced:
Children ("Dig Into Reading"): Scott Nash - http://scottnash.com/ (Flat
Stanley, Snow Day!, The Bugliest Bug, etc.)
Teen ("Beneath the Surface"): Duncan Long - http://duncanlong.com/
Adult ("Groundbreaking Reads"): Shane Rebenschied -

The slogans for the 2014 "Science" program have been announced:
Children: Fizz, Boom, Read!
Teens: Spark a Reaction
Adults: Literary Elements
The theme for the 2015 program will be "Heroes" (think superheroes,
historical heroes, community heroes). I'm proud to say this was one of
the top themes suggested by Ohio librarians for 2015.
If your library uses the CSLP program themes and resources, I strongly
encourage you to register on the CSLP website,
http://www.cslpreads.org/. Registration is fast and free for any
library worker at any Ohio public library. Once registered and logged
in, you have immediate access to numerous extra resources not found in
the manual, many of which are produced after the manual is released in
the fall. Among these are sign language videos demonstrating signed
rhymes that go with this year's nighttime theme. You will also find an
audio PSA in English and Spanish (video coming very soon), web banners,
logos, and more. Log in and check under "Proprietary Downloads". Also
check out the discussion forum, and be sure to familiarize yourself with
the CSLP Rules of Use
(http://www.cslpreads.org/about/rules-of-use.html).
You are also encouraged to use the Ohio-specific resources, including
SRP workshop materials created by Ohio librarians, on the Ohio Summer
Reading Program page of WebJunction Ohio:
http://www.webjunction.org/content/webjunction/partners/ohio/oh-programs
/sumread.html
(no registration required)
If you have any questions or feedback about CSLP or statewide summer
reading resources, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Janet
