[OPLINLIST] Tobacco Free Policies

OPLIN Libraries:

 

I recently requested information on libraries that had Tobacco Free
Policies.  Here is a list of policies that I received as well as the policy
that our board passed two weeks ago. 

 

London Public Library Policy

In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, Chapter 3794, the London Public
Library provides a tobacco free environment for all those that wish to
utilize its grounds and facilities. 

Tobacco use (Smoking Tobacco/Other substances or Chewing Tobacco) is
prohibited on the London Public Library's grounds which include, parking
lots, outside pavilions, library vehicles, doorway entrances/exits and
buildings. 

Signs restricting the use of tobacco use will be posted in all designated
areas in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, Chapter 3794. 

 

Ashland Public Library

"The following behaviors are not permitted in the library, on the bookmobile
or on library property:"  

(we had a positive behavior emphasis on the old policy that did not work
well, so I rewrote it with a list of 25 unacceptable behaviors-smoking is
#17.)

 

"17. Using tobacco in any form in any way while on library property."

 

North Canton Public Library

Smoking:

Policy: No smoking of any kind will be permitted anywhere within the
buildings or on the property owned by the North Canton Public Library.

 

Delaware County District Library

 

Personal Appearance and Conduct

 

                Employees are expected to dress in a manner that is both
professional and appropriate for the position they hold and the tasks
associated with their position.  All clothing must be clean, neat and in
good repair.  Personal grooming and hygiene should be in keeping with
accepted professional standards.  The Director will have final authority to
determine the proper dress standards and personal grooming standards for all
employees.

                Employees are expected to conduct themselves according to
accepted standards for a business environment, which would preclude eating,
drinking, or chewing gum in public areas.

In accordance with ORC 3794.02, the use of any tobacco products in any part
of the building or on library property is prohibited.

 

Administrative Procedure:

 

1.	The following behaviors are prohibited in the library:

a.	In accordance with ORC 3794.02, the use of any tobacco products in
any part of the building or on library property
b.	Pets, with the exception of handicapped-assistance animals
c.	Loud or abusive language
d.	Actions that are disruptive to others
e.	Selling or solicitation of any kind except as done by the Friends of
the Delaware County District Library or ballot petitioners
f.	Distribution of leaflets or similar literature without approval by
the Director or her designee
g.	Vandalism, damage or destruction of library property
h.	Violation of the library's Acceptable Use Policy 

2.	Library staff may ask a patron to leave the premises if he/she is
observed in violation of any of these regulations.  
3.	Library staff should call law enforcement officials if deemed
necessary.

 

Geauga County Public Library
