[OPLINLIST] Closing date for Special Ohio LSTA Grant Program for Public Libraries to Join an Existing Consortium Announced

In January 2011 the State Library announced a special LSTA grant program
to allow a public library on a stand-alone Integrated Library System
(ILS) to join an existing consortium that uses a shared catalog.  State
Library staff believes that library consortia represent best practices
in collaboration, cost-savings, and resource sharing.  The special grant
program allowed eligible libraries to apply for up $33,000 in federal
funds.  

 

Since the program began, 16 public libraries have received a total of
$361,955 in federal funds.  Consortia joined included SEO, SearchOhio,
and the Ohio Valley Library Consortium (OVLC).  Additionally, a grant in
the amount of $108,193 was awarded to the Community Public Library of
Sunbury to form the COOL consortium using the Open Source Evergreen
software. 

 

The original program announcement indicated that funds would be
available for two years.  The ILS Automation grants will no longer be
funded after the December 2012 State Library Board meeting.  Public
Libraries that are interested in requesting LSTA funds to join an
existing consortia must submit their application to the State Library by
October 31, 2012 in order for the application to be reviewed and taken
to the December 11 Board meeting.
