A free KnowItNow (KIN) training opportunity will be hosted by the University of Akron in Bierce Library, Room 279, on Thursday, August 9, 2012. Staff members from area public and academic libraries (either those currently participating in KIN or those interested in joining the collaborative) are invited to attend.

Bierce Library is in the center of campus on Buchtel Commons, near, but not on the corner of College Street and Buchtel Avenue. A map and driving directions to the training location are available at http://www.uakron.edu/resources/campusMapNew/.

A "basic training" morning session (10:00 am to 12:30 pm) will be offered concentrating on navigating the KIN Provider Site and providing hands-on practice with the SparkRef virtual reference software.

An "advanced training" afternoon session (2:00 pm to 4:00 pm) will be offered and will provide tips on using Google, Wikipedia, and the Ohio Web Library databases; handling problem patrons and patrons with problems; and reviewing real KIN transcripts to enhance customer and reference service skills. There will also be time for discussion and questions.

Participants are welcome to come to either the morning session, the afternoon session, or a combination of morning and afternoon.

There is an Einstein Bagels in Bierce Library as well as several vending machines. For those remaining for the afternoon discussion, there are numerous eateries including a Starbucks in the Student Union (just across the Commons) and several good restaurants two blocks west of campus in downtown Akron.

Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve your place, email your name, preferred email address, library, and which sessions you'll be attending to Don Boozer, KIN Coordinator, at support at knowitnow.org.
