*Please excuse any cross-postings.*

Whether we’re calming a patron frustrated by fines or assisting a harried
user searching for sources, library work is full of emotion. Do you want
to know more about how we can more effectively manage the toll this
emotional work can take?

OHIONET is happy to have, fresh from their successful presentation at ALA
Anaheim, Dr. Miriam Matteson, a Kent State SLIS faculty member, and
OHIONET’s own Shelly Miller introduce participants to the concept of *emotional
labor*—the requirement to display organizationally-prescribed emotions and
the strategies used to meet those expectations--through Emotions at Work:
Examining Emotional Labor in
Librarianship<http://ohionet.org/civicrm/event/info?id=122&reset=1>
. This 90-minute webinar will cover the background of the emotional labor
process, a discussion the presenters’ current research on the topic, and an
outline of potential management solutions to create better service
transactions for both staff and patrons.

*WHEN*: Friday, August 3rd, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM
*WHERE*: Live, ONLINE
*COST*: $0 (Premium OHIONET member rate), $25 (OHIONET member rate), $45
(non-member rate)
