Position			Reference Librarian (Full time position, 35 hours per week)
Schedule:                This position requires a shift of 9 AM to 5
PM, 12 PM to 8 PM or 10 AM to 5 PM on
				Fridays/Saturdays.  Evenings and  weekends are
 				hours are subject to change by supervisor &Sunday hours are a
possibility in
                                the future.
Responsibilities:	Performs Reference Desk functions such as answering reference
				questions in person, by telephone, or email under the direction of the
				Head of Reference utilizing the library’s materials collection, online
				catalog and databases, Internet and local history resources
Required:			Bachelor’s Degree required;
                                Masters of Library Science preferred
				Ability to learn online catalog, library policies and procedures
				Computer skills and typing are necessary
				Ability to establish good patron rapport
				Ability to create a friendly and pleasant impression of the Library
				Flexibility to deal with multiple, unexpected tasks and patrons
				Ability to meet deadlines
				Ability to follow written and oral instructions
				Ability to maintain confidentiality of patron records/reference interview
				Ability to make sound judgments and decisions
				Ability to bend, stoop, and lift materials
				Valid driver’s license
Basic Duties:    	Reference:  Staffs the reference desk, answer
reference questions
				Reader’s Advisory:  Assists patrons on the selection of materials,
				develops promotional materials to help publicize various print and
				electronic collections, designs and maintains Readers Advisory displays
				Summer Reading Program:  Assists in the development and promotion
				of the Summer Reading Program for Adults and Teens
	
				Library Website:  Contributes to the promotion of library news, events,
				activities and various links by assisting the Head of Reference with
				regular maintenance of the library’s website
		
				Computer Related Duties:  offers basic instruction to patrons on the use
				of public computers, Internet, databases and online card catalog.	
				Also works as a team to develop, schedule, promote and teach
				Computer classes for the public
				Continuing Education:  Attends workshops and special interest groups
				To keep apprised of new technology and methods
				
Specific Duties: 	Teen Programming:  plans, promotes and implements programs
				for teens.  Acts as liaison to the area schools and oversees the Teen
				Advisory Board.
				Collection Development:  Responsible for selecting materials for the
				teen collection.   Assists Head of Reference with the evaluation,
				selection and weeding of the Adult and AV collection
				Press Releases:  Writes press releases on library news and events and
				distributes to local newspapers
				Programming:  assists the Head of Reference in planning,
          			promoting and implementing programs for Adult patrons
				
				Memory Project:  Assists the Head of Reference with the local history
				digitization project featured on the Library’s website
				Committee Work/Community Work:  Participates in various library
				committees, participates in the Annual Olde Canal Days festival, may
				participate in local community groups as a Library Liaison
				Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
                                 $10.25/hr probationary period/$11.00/hr after
