        [Norweld (Northwest Regional Library System) and the North West Ohio District of OELMA (Ohio Educational Library Media Association) are pleased to join forces to provide a professional development opportunity for all librarians and school personnel. The event will be held November 5th at the Norweld office, located at 181 S. Main St. in Bowling Green, Ohio. The program for the evening will be presented by Gayle Geitgey.     Gayle is an Instructional Integration Specialist for INFOhio.  She has thirty-six years of various experiences as a high school librarian, district technology director and online adjunct instructor. Gayle works with several instructional programs, which encourage the usage of INFOhio resources. Gayle brings to this presentation knowledge of the major shifts involved in the Common Core standards as well as understanding of the professional development needs of school and public librarians.    Program:  6:00 - 7:00 p.m.  Rigorous Learning: An Introduction to the Ohio Learning Standards and 21st Century Skills  The Ohio Learning Standards include the Common Core standards and promote college and career readiness, K-12.  The new Ohio Learning Standards also include a mandated Third Grade Reading Guarantee, a demand for higher graduation rates, and higher requirements for college admission.  Ohio teachers and librarians face state and national changes which call for an increased focus on research, literacy, text complexity and rigorous learning.  This session is an introduction to the standards and will include definitions of important terms used in the standards such as text complexity and academic vocabulary. The requirements of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee will be outlined. There will be a brief overview of the INFOhio resources available to help students, teachers, and librarians meet the standards.    7:00 - 7:15 p.m.  Break with light refreshments    7:15 - 8:15 p.m.  Future Ready: Preparing for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee and College Readiness with INFOhio Resources  Once you know about the standards, what can you do to help your students and teachers meet the new requirements? INFOhio resources are designed to assist you. INFOhio has created powerful tools that you can add to your educational backpack to prepare students for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee and for college and careers. Learn about the wide array of INFOhio tools and resources available to help your students and teachers be ready for the future. (For hands on experience bring your own device).
