Please excuse multiple postings...

The State Library of Ohio is pleased to announce the availability of LSTA competitive grant funds to support literacy initiatives. The purpose of this grant program is to assist libraries in preparing individuals to be active learners and full participants in the local community and the global society. "In a rapidly changing society, the library has a role in assisting the learner through all phases of his or her life, from preparing to enter school ready to learn, to transitioning from K-12 to higher education or work, to learning new skills and engaging in new experiences" (Goal 1 Ohio LSTA Plan 2013-2017<http://library.ohio.gov/sites/default/files/OhioLSTAFiveYearPlan2013-2017.pdf>).

Under this program, a library may select either a Project-Grant or a Planning-Grant in one of the following areas: Early Literacy, Digital Literacy, Functional Literacy or Other Literacy. Applicants may request up to $24,000 in federal funds. A financial cash match of 25% of the total project cost is required.

Additional requirements include:

* Project coordinators are required to have an MLS/MLIS or a Library Media Specialist Certification.

* Proposals must include formal partners that will contribute specified deliverables to the project. For each formal partner, a signed partnership form (available on the website) is required.

* Proposals must include a sustainability plan or strategy to continue (for project grants) or implement (for planning grants) the program after September 30, 2015. This section must include names of possible future funders and/or where you may seek future funding.

* Libraries applying for and receiving a Planning Grant will be required to attend a day long training as part of the process for moving forward to implement the project.

Proposals are due at the State Library no later than 11:59 p.m. on September 29, 2014 and must be submitted electronically to lsta at library.ohio.gov<mailto:lsta at library.ohio.gov>. Recommended proposals will be taken to the December 9, 2014 State Library Board meeting for approval. Funded projects will run from January 1, 2015 - September 30, 2015. The RFP and additional application materials and guidance may be found at: http://library.ohio.gov/lpd/lsta
