Shelby County Libraries is seeking an energetic and creative individual to
serve as Youth Services Program Coordinator at its main location in Sidney,
Ohio.

 

HOURS: Full time (40 hrs/wk). Includes one evening a week and one Saturday
per month.

 

BENEFITS: Includes health benefits package as well as paid and sick leave.
Pay negotiable and commensurate on education and experience.

 

PRIME FUNCTION:

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Services Director, the Youth
Services Programming Coordinator is responsible for planning, creating, and
presenting youth programs with a strong emphasis on teens. Coordinator is
accountable for providing timely, friendly, and courteous service to library
patrons as well as developing relationships with schools, community groups,
and agencies that target teens and young adults. 

 

FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plans, develops, and presents programs for all youth, especially teens

Develops and grows a Teen Advisory Board with teen volunteers

Works the children's room desk and main circulation desk

Shelves library materials and keep shelves in good order and straightened

Develops teen book displays

Orders and maintains teen collection for all six Shelby County Libraries
locations

Attends all library and department staff meetings

Attends workshops, conferences, and meetings related to area of
responsibility

Serves as a liason to schools and community groups working with teens

Requires excellent knowledge of children's and teen literature

Reads professional literature to stay abreast of trends in area of
responsibility

Provides good customer service

Possesses a knowledge and understanding of the psychology of teens

Keeps abreast of current library procedures and policy

Provides ideas and content for the library web page and social media

Represents the library at community events  

Performs other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA:

Educational:

Post high school education in studies focusing on teens or relevant
experience working with youth

 

Essential:

Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with people of
all ages, especially teens

Effective written communication skills

Creativity and enthusiasm in working with youth and providing programs

Working knowledge of teen literature 

Ability to handle multiple demands

Ability to converse with others and handle interpersonal challenges and
conflicts

Ability to work independently and as a team when necessary

Ability to change work schedule as needed by the library

Can stoop, stretch, and climb to retrieve and/or shelve materials easily

Willingness to speak before an audience

Willingness to take direction

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Possess a level of comfort with computer software and hardware

Possess excellent online searching skills

Ability to welcome, to serve, and respect all people equally

Interest in supporting an environment where materials are freely and easily
accessible
