Library Director-­‐ Librarian of Mercer Area Public Library Mercer Borough

Mercer County, PA


The Board of Trustees of the Mercer Area Public Library is seeking a leader with creativity, vision, integrity and a commitment to excellent library service for the position of Director of the Mercer Area Public Library. The Director is responsible for all areas of library management and administration, including personnel, collection development, fiscal planning, grant writing, fundraising, library service development and programming, and maintaining community relations. The Director must also administer maintenance of library facility, grounds, and equipment. Computer literacy and excellent communication skills are essential. The ability to work collaboratively and build consensus with the Library Board, the Library staff of three part time employees and the Friends of the Library is a must.


The position requires a bachelor’s degree from a 4-­‐year college or university and completion of at least 12 credit hours of courses in library science. Provisional certification required. ALA accredited Masters in Library Science preferred.

-­‐A minimum of 3 years of public library experience required, with supervisory

experience a plus.

-­‐Act 34 Criminal Record Check, Act 151 Child Abuse History Clearance and Act 73 FBI Criminal History Report are required.

-­‐You will also be required to pass a drug screen and provide three professional references as part of the interview process.

The salary range is $30,000 -­‐ $33,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include vacation and sick leave only. February 2, 2015 desired start date.


The Mercer Library is located midway between Erie and Pittsburgh servicing approx. 19,000 residents. The Library is a member of the New Castle Library District.
