You remember Pinterest , right? I remembered that I hadn’t been there in a while when I saw it on screen at SWON’s STEM Summer Reading Program workshop last week. Seeing pages full of science crafts got me back on their site. 

One project we put assembled that day was this working model of a lung . Pulling the lower balloon mimics the action of your diaphragm, which pulls air into your lungs. And the photo on Pinterest links back to the science site that created this particular lung model, including steps on how to build your own. 

We asked how many of the librarians at the STEM workshop get programming ideas from librarians at different systems. Only a few raised their hands. Chantal is setting up several Pinterest boards for SWON . If you’d like to share your boards, we’d be glad to link to them and help you share (and find) library programming resources through Pinterest.

LEGO Grant 


A new grant program is aimed at building participation in the Junior First LEGO League (Jr. FLL) in public libraries nationwide. For more information about Jr. FLL, visit http://www.juniorfirstlegoleague.org . Libraries chosen to participate in this program will receive approximately $2,500 in LEGO materials, participation fees and other support.
