APPLY NOW -- 2015 "Vanita Scholars" Scholarship!

Last year, the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) awarded Vanita Scholars scholarships to Lisa Krok, Robert Kaminski and Sarah Thomas for their outstanding essays describing their personal journey to library school and their future plans on working with young people and diverse populations in the future. Each awardee was given $1,000 scholarship toward their education.

SLIS is pleased to announce the 2nd annual $1,000 Vanita Scholars award offer. Details on how to apply are provided below.

Four scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to students whose applications best demonstrate their strong desire to work with young people and diverse populations.

Is your focus at SLIS in the area of Youth Services Librarianship? Are you dedicated to a career in children's, young adult, or school librarianship? Are you interested in working with diverse populations? "Diverse" in this context is broadly defined and includes (but is not limited to) people of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, people of diverse physical abilities or disabilities, or those of diverse economic backgrounds.

If so, you are immediately eligible to apply for one of the four "Vanita Scholars" Scholarship Awards, in the amount of $1,000 each. These awards are generously funded by children's book author Vanita Oelschlager (Vanitabooks.com<http://vanitabooks.com/>) and husband, Jim Oelschlager."

Note: By accepting a "Vanita Scholars" scholarship, recipients agree to allow SLIS to publicize their award and to use all or part of their essay in the publicity.

How to Apply
Students must complete the application form at http://kentstate.az1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_d5YJLGe8ICy7DqB no later than midnight on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014. The application requires an engaging and convincing personal essay -- free from spelling and grammar errors - that describes your personal road to library school and explains how and why you plan to work with children or young people and diverse populations in the future. The word limit on the essay is 500 words. Essays longer than 500 words will not be considered.
