[OPLINLIST] State Library Provides Access to Skillsoft Resources to Ohio Library Staff (only)

The State Library of Ohio is pleased to announce a new opportunity for training and on-the-job support tools.  Ohio library staff now have unlimited access, at no charge, to the general technology and business skills courses and instructional videos from Skillsoft.
Skillsoft is a premier provider of online learning and elearning solutions. Skillsoft courses, books, and videos have been developed by industry-leading learning experts to ensure that they build talent and develop a more knowledgeable, productive and valuable workforce.
[cid:image001.gif at 01D0DB55.D8F851C0]Through the Skillport learning management system, registered users can manage and record their use of 450 online self-paced courses and over 4,000 short instructional videos. Course offerings cover a variety of topics, including communication and interpersonal skills, customer service, desktop software skills, leadership, management, and information technology. Additionally, SkillPort allows users to create a customized learning plan to address specific development goals and keep track of frequently accessed learning assets. Users can review both completed and in-progress learning assets in My Progress as well as create print-friendly reports on learning history and certificates of completion.

"Making the Skillsoft resources available to Ohio libraries provides them with additional opportunities to grow their staff and better serve their communities," said Missy Lodge, Associate State Librarian for Library Development.  This service is provided to Ohio library staff by the State Library of Ohio and through the efforts of WebJunction. Last year 881 Ohio library staff registered for 1,673 WebJunction courses.  Skillsoft further enhances the choices for continuing education and skill development available.
"We are happy to partner with WebJunction and several other state libraries to make Skillsoft online training and courses available to the Ohio library community," said State Librarian Beverly Cain.  "The training accessible through Skillsoft is an excellent complement to the training included in WebJunction."

The State Library of Ohio provides support to help WebJunction provide information and training opportunities at no cost to staff working in all types of libraries and museums, and LIS students. WebJunction and SkillSoft are paid for in-part through federal IMLS LSTA funds.
