Title:  Children's Associate at Wooster Library                  Date Posted:  March 23, 2015



Job Responsibilities:  Under general supervision, the Children's Associate provides reference and programming services, assists with maintaining the Children's collection and performs other tasks as assigned.



Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree and either a minimum of one (1) year library experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Knowledge of children's literature, preferred. Applicant must have a valid Ohio driver's license and an acceptable driving record.



Working Conditions:  Part-time, approximately 20 hours per week with additional hours as necessary.  Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.



Knowledge of: *Library policies and procedures, Dewey Decimal Classification System, basic library science and technology, *automation systems, *computer software and *electronic information resources (*may be acquired after hire.)



Skills and Abilities to:  Present a positive, professional image to the public; interact and respond appropriately to patrons and staff; develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and staff; communicate effectively in written and oral form; establish a rapport with children, their families, and those who serve children; organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks; conduct effective reference interviews; maintain confidentiality.



Illustrative Duties:  Provides general reference services to patrons; develops and conducts story hours, on and off site; prepares materials for teacher loans; assists with the planning and implementation of programs; assists in the administration of the Summer Reading Club; assists with the maintenance of the Children's collection.



Pay Range:  $12.00 per hour.
