[OPLINLIST] Can you identify this book?

[Laura Solomon]

Although I'm no longer behind a reference desk, people still ask me
questions!  In this case, the person remembers a book they read long ago.
It was likely a YA or children's book, written probably in the 1940's or
50's. The plot was something like there's an old tree in a park that if you
climb down inside  the trunk from the top it will turn you into a pigeon.
If you climb if you climb into the trunk from the bottom it turns you back
into a human.
