Immersive, hands-on learning can be a great way to quickly develop new skills. We're pleased to be able to offer day-long workshops on a wide variety of topics over the next few months to help you better serve your community. Click on the links below for more information.

Advanced Book Repair and Structure<http://www.ohionet.org/civicrm/event/info?id=381&reset=1>
Do you have local or unique items in your archives, manuscripts, special collections or local history collection in need of a little TLC? Attendees will participate in decision-making and product evaluation for rare, brittle, and fragile books, apply stabilizing preservation decisions, and evaluate rehousing and boxing options. All registrants will receive a supply kit (and list of handy materials) to take back to their institutions.
Thursday, May 18th, 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Presenter: Dr. Miriam Kahn

Build Relationships with Respectful Communication<http://www.ohionet.org/civicrm/event/info?id=354&reset=1>
Improving customer service is a great way to build good community relations. But what if you thought about everyone you communicate with-staff members, colleagues, end users-as "customers?" Join us to develop effective communication skills by having the opportunity to practice setting ground rules, being aware of non-verbal cues, using active listening skills, expressing expectations clearly and more!
Monday, Apr. 24th, 9:30 AM to 4 PM
Presenter: Dr. R. Glenn Ray

Fundamentals of Cataloging: Introduction and Basic Description<http://www.ohionet.org/civicrm/event/info?id=372&reset=1>
This workshop covers the same content offered in our online version, including basic cataloging concepts and processes and demonstrations of how to describe and catalog our most numerous resource-books-from an RDA-friendly perspective. Attendees will get to know the variety of tools available to help support their cataloging, learn to identify RDA and hybrid records in MARC format, and practice a sample workflow.
Tuesday, Mar. 7th, 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM

Fundamentals of Cataloging: Serials<http://www.ohionet.org/civicrm/event/info?id=373&reset=1>
This session will focus on the issues, fields, and elements to be considered when cataloging periodicals, covering the same material as our online version. Attendees will practice how to identify records for serial works, select the best record for copy cataloging, understand how RDA impacts how we catalog resources issued in more than one part, and explore additional factors to consider when working with electronic serials.
Monday, May 15th, 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM
The presenter for both cataloging workshops will be Misty Alvaro from the Upper Arlington Public Library.
