I have a patron who is looking for a book that a teacher read to him in 3rd grade - circa 1970.  It was a chapter book about a young boy who was heavy set and was at a boarding school of some sort. He was not popular until he scored a winning point in some sports game (hockey? Soccer?). Then he became popular.  The ending of the book has this boy, now slim and trim and popular, befriending a new overweight student.

Any ideas?
