*RESPONSIBLITIES*
1. Ensure that excellent customer service is provided to all customers
in a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude towards all external
and internal customers.
2. Oversee, monitor, and participate in the daily public service
operations of the branch including information/ reference, youth services,
circulation, building facilities and maintenance, and outreach as
applicable.
3. Responsible for the efficient operation, orderliness, management, and
supervision of the branch public service operations ensuring established
policies and procedures are followed while meeting customer needs.
4. Using the library's strategic plan, collaboratively develop,
establish, and revise goals, objectives, and policy and procedures relating
to the public service operations of the library.
5. Direct, supervise, motivate, coach, and evaluate staff to ensure and
enhance delivery of public services.
6. Responsible for establishing and maintaining good communication
practices among branch supervisors and public services staff.
7. Monitor and ensure quality public service programming that meets the
community's needs such as book clubs, computer classes, story times, and
the summer reading program, as applicable.
8. Ensures that the physical building, grounds, security, and equipment
are properly maintained and minor repairs are completed as necessary.
9. Conduct performance evaluations, interview, coach, and make
recommendations with regard to salary, discipline, hiring, promotions,
transfers, development, and terminations.
10. Conduct regular staff meetings to keep team informed, resolve
problems, and obtain staff input.
11. Resolve customer complaints in an effective, pleasant, and timely
manner.
12. Know and implement library policies and procedures.
13. Make recommendations to the Library Director for budget expenditures
for public service operations, maintenance, and the branch building.
14. Contribute to the planning and development of capital improvement
projects within the branch.
15. Develop an awareness of community needs, represent and promote the
library, and maintain co-operative efforts with civic groups, and other
community organizations to meet those community needs.
16. Maintain confidentiality of all customer transactions and records.
17. Keep current with technology and be aware of new trends through
attendance at appropriate workshops, seminars and conferences, and
participation in professional groups.
18. Regular and predictable physical attendance as required.
19. Other duties as requested or assigned.
*OTHER*
1. Work with other branches and departments such as accounting,
administration, collection services, facilities, human resources, IT, and
public relations, to ensure coordination of branch library services and to
maintain a safe, functional, and inviting space.
2. Member of various library committees.
3. Compile and distribute library statistics, as applicable.
4. Familiarity with all types of literature, as applicable.
*REQUIREMENTS*
1. Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree in library science
from an ALA accredited institution is highly desired.
2. Minimum of five years prior supervisory experience at the department
head level or above in a library is required.
3. Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and be insurable, or have the
ability to travel to branches and events.
4. Must have a positive attitude and a willingness to accept change.
5. Must interact with external and internal customers in a consistently
tactful, friendly, and courteous manner.
6. Demonstrated leadership, administrative, budgetary, supervisory, and
building facilities experience is needed.
7. Good knowledge of management practices with demonstrated skills and
judgment in effective management and problem solving.
8. Must be able to effectively collaborate, be organized, efficient, and
creative.
9. Excellent knowledge of library automation practices and procedures
and the use of automation, databases, and the Internet for library services.
10. Excellent computer skills using various software programs such as
library databases, on-line catalog, and have advanced Internet and
Microsoft suite skills.
11. Demonstrated ability to oversee and monitor branch public service
programming and events.
12. Must have excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills.
13. Must possess the ability to be friendly, tactful, courteous, and be
able to present to, and interact and communicate with community groups,
organizations, and vendors in a professional manner.
14. Must be able to communicate effectively and have excellent verbal
and written communication skills including excellent grammar.
15. Must be able to operate library equipment such as copiers,
computers, printers, fax, materials handling system, and self-check
machines as applicable.
16. Must be able to foster a team environment.
17. Must be able to read (including cursive), write, speak, and
understand English effectively.
18. Must be able to perform basic math functions such as adding,
subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
19. Must be able to meet deadlines and manage frequent interruptions.
20. Able to work days, evenings, and weekends.
*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*
1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
2. Must be able to hear and see or use prosthetic that will enable
assurance of position requirements.
3. Must be able to grasp, push, pull, reach, climb ladders and stairs,
and shovel snow.
4. Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate library equipment
and perform general typing and keyboard operation or use prosthetic that
will enable assurance of position requirements.
5. Must have sufficient visual acuity to distinguish letters, words, and
numbers.
6. Must be able to work in areas that may contain dust or other possible
allergens.
7. Must be able to move materials that could weigh 50 pounds, and may
move loaded book carts and/or bins that could weigh up to 200 pounds.
