An Evening with Eric Jay Dolin, author of A Furious Sky: The Five Hundred Year History of America’s Hurricanes
The Hudson Library & Historical Society will host a live virtual streaming event on Tuesday, August 18 at 7 p.m. with author Eric Jay Dolin as he discusses his most recent book, A Furious Sky: The Five Hundred Year History of America’s Hurricanes. Dolin presents the five-hundred-year story of American hurricanes, from the nameless storms that threatened Columbus’ New World voyages, to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the escalation of hurricane season as a result of global warming. Historian H. W. Brands calls the book, "a riveting mix of natural science, institutional history and human experience. All in a great read.”
Dolin is the author of fourteen books, including Leviathan: The History of Whaling in America, which was chosen as one of the best nonfiction books of 2007 by the Los Angeles Times and the Boston Globe, and also won the 2007 John Lyman Award for U.S. Maritime History. His most recent book before A Furious Sky: The Five-Hundred-Year History of America’s Hurricanes was Black Flags, Blue Waters: The Epic History of America’s Most Notorious Pirates. Dolin is a graduate of Brown, Yale, and MIT, where he received his PhD in Environmental Policy.
Copies of A Furious Sky will be available for purchase courtesy of the Learned Owl Book Shop. Registration for this program is required and a valid email address is required at time of registration.
