Troy-Miami County Public Library is looking for a full-time Youth Services Manager to develop, implement, and present appealing, high-quality programs and outreach services that will enrich the lives of children and align with the Library's values and strategic plan. Starting salary range is $45,760 - $52,000, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition, we pay 8.5% of your 10% OPERS contribution and contribute generously to medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

*        Plans, implements, presents, and evaluates children and teen programming.

*        Provides leadership and direction to youth librarians and subordinate support staff.

*        Provides specialized, advanced knowledge of youth and teen literature to staff and patrons.

      *    Offers patron assistance and research for children, teens, parents, teachers, and others.

*        Works with local schools, childcare agencies and other community partners to provide quality programs and services as needed.

*        Collaborates with Outreach Services to provide quality children's programming throughout the county.

*        Coordinates with PR/Marketing Manager to promote activities.

*        Serves as liaison with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

*        Evaluates and suggests children's and teen titles for purchase or replacement.

*        Reevaluates and deselects materials which need to be cancelled, repaired, or replaced.

*        Maintains a clean and inviting atmosphere within the children's and teen departments.

*        Creates attractive displays to promote library use by children and teens.

*        Attends events in the community to promote the library and early literacy knowledge.

*        Provides training for staff as needed on children's literacy issues.

*        Compiles information and statistics and prepares and submits monthly and yearly reports to the Director.

*        Keeps abreast of information by regularly reading email, minutes, the staff website and by attending management and all-staff meetings.


Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:



*         Ability to lead, supervise and motivate employees.

*         Excellent verbal, listening, written, and telephone communication skills.

*         Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve organizational goals and objectives

*         Self-motivated, organized, efficient, and productive with excellent time management
skills.

*         Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and remain calm in stressful situations.

*         Excellent computer skills including troubleshooting, using the ILS, MS Office, library
databases, social media, and the Internet required.

*         Youth and teen literature expertise in all formats.

*         Multi-tasking ability for successful handling of a broad range of tasks and planning duties.

*         Must be outgoing with a sense of humor and the ability to engage and entertain
children and teens.

*         Budgeting and analytical skills.

*         A strong service ethic, presentation, training and community engagement skills are essential.

*         Flexible scheduling requirements, able to work some nights and weekends.

Education/Experience:

*       Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.

*       Progressively responsible prior library experience with excellent working knowledge of all library services.

*       Minimum of two years of experience with youth in library or educational environment.

*       Three years supervisory experience preferred.
