A Note from the Executive Director
[https://neo-rls.org/photos/77535_07122021102302.jpg]In the almost six years that I have been at NEO-RLS, I have written a weekly newsletter Note.  The Notes have varied in length, subject and, yes, even in quality.  There are the weeks when I have read something that I want to bring to your attention, the weeks when I want to tell you what is happening at NEO-RLS, and the weeks when I want to share something that has occurred. There have also been the weeks when I have racked my brain for something to write and have come up with very little.  All told, I have written approximately 300 Notes.  That’s a lot of Notes, especially considering that I never realized it would be something I would be doing on a regular basis.  Occasionally, others write the Note and today, I am writing to ask you to think about writing a Note.  Is there something you would like to share?  Something that you have been doing, reading or thinking about that you feel would be of interest to others in the region? Building Projects 101 - New Date
We recently found out that OLC's Legislative Day is April 6th.  As a result, we have changed the date of the Building Projects 101: Overview Session <https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=57370135&nr=6055860191> to Thursday, April 7th .  You won't want to miss this.  It is the first session in the much requested Construction Series.

Interested in learning more about library building projects? In this session, we will cover an overview of common terms, provide sample design and construction timelines, share examples for communicating with patrons, as well as, review land selection criteria, and considerations for when to renovate or build new.  At the end of the session, we will provide an overview of the upcoming sessions.  There will be ample time for questions.  The session will be facilitated by Wendy Tressler, MLIS, Director of Capital Planning & Project Management, Columbus Metropolitan Library.  Wendy has worked on library building projects of all shapes and sizes for over a decade. She also is active with ALA Core Building & Operations Section serving on the Building & Operations Leadership Committee.

Ohio Digital Network wants to go on a date with you - a coffee date, that is!

ODN is launching a new guided discussion series called ODN Coffee Chats where we’ll talk about metadata-related topics that are on the minds of digital collection and cultural heritage workers across the state. Each virtual 60 minute meeting will have its own discussion topic with resources and questions shared ahead of time to prompt frank conversation – no formal presentations and no recordings.
Last month Janet posted an update about publisher permissions for online storytimes . Since then, Penguin Random House and Little, Brown have announced extensions to June 30. Here is the updated list, which is not intended to be comprehensive. Be sure to check each publisher’s website for specifics on the titles you are using in your online programs.


New Americans, a new toolkit from the Association for Library Service to Children’s Library Service to Underserved Children and their Caregivers Committee, offers resources for working with the 44 million people in the United States who were born in another country. The toolkit includes information on programs and services; communications and marketing; library collections; stakeholders and partnerships; and equipping staff.

Community Reading Initiative - Gumdrop Books
