A Note From the Executive Direcor
[https://neo-rls.org/photos/77535_07122021102302.jpg]The wonderful sunshine and warmer temperatures make it easy to think about shifting into our summer routines at home and in our libraries. At NEO-RLS we are looking forward to welcoming three new Board of Trustees members this summer. The nomination period for new board members is in April of each year and any designated member representative may be nominated. Elections occur every year in May. Member representatives are able to vote for nominees in their respective category (i.e. Academic, Special or School) or in their respective Zone (i.e. Zone 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5). Trustees serve three year terms and each year there are varying open seats for election. This year nominees were sought for open seats representing Academic libraries, Zone 1 libraries (total operating revenue of $17.5M and up) and Zone 5 libraries (total operating revenue of up to $799,999). I am happy to report that we will be welcoming the following new trustees as of July 1, 2022. Scott Trimmer, Learning Commons Director at Cuyahoga Community College – Eastern Campus, will join us representing Academic libraries. Scott has overseen the Library, Open Lab, Media Services, Testing & Tutoring at Tri-C since 2014 and was the University of Findlay’s Academic Technology Services Manager prior to that. Scott currently serves on the NEO-RLS Marketing/PR Advisory Group. Patrick Manning, Neighborhood Services Manager, Akron-Summit County Public Library, is responsible for supervising the system’s 18 branch locations. Patrick will represent the Zone 1 libraries and has 35+ years of service experience in public libraries, the university and the private sector. Kara Cervelli, Director, Fairport Harbor Public Library, will represent our Zone 5 libraries. Kara brings over 30 years of library experience and has been Director since 2019, previously serving as Head of Children’s Services and Technology Coordinator at Perry Public Library. We congratulate each of them and look forward to having them join us in July. Together we are maximizing library potential. Have a great rest of your week!

Banned Books Library Card
A limited-edition library card proclaiming "I read banned books" is so popular that officials in Nashville have decided to make it a permanent option.
Why it matters: The Nashville Public Library unveiled the provocative design in April following months of national and local debate about censorship and book banning, including the McMinn County school board removing the graphic novel "Maus" from their curriculum.
