IT Systems Engineer - Information Technology
Salary Range:  $58,177.60 - $87,152.00 annually
PURPOSE OF JOB:
Administers and ensures stability of the library's technical infrastructure. Drive system administration and operations related to patching, backup/recovery, virtualization, storage, systems engineering, cloud, security, identity management, and disaster recovery.
Responsible for architecture design, deployment, and maintenance of the library's desktop and endpoint infrastructure, including operating systems, desktop applications, and other information system related technologies as assigned.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


  1.  Provides system administration and operational stability for all system functions; including cloud, security, identity, virtualization, storage, backup, and disaster recovery.
  2.  Assesses vulnerability information and software updates for operating systems and applications.
  3.  Plans and leads the deployment effort for new software and software updates based on vulnerabilities, bug fixes, and feature enhancements.
  4.  Responsible for proactively managing endpoint technology to ensure consistency, stability, and reliability of operations. Uses tools to develop reports and executes projects to ensure compliance.
  5.  Leads the engineering, management and maintenance of the desktop operating system images for staff and public library customer use. Provides consistent management and delivery of computing technologies for all users of library computers.
  6.  Serves as escalated support for desktop related issues, and desktop applications. Works with Library staff, other Information Technology teams, external support partners and vendors to identify and resolve desktop support issues.
  7.  Secures the library's environment to prevent internal/external breaches of security.
  8.  Leads the development of documented standards for the desktop environment within a changing environment. Stays up to date on new desktop technology.
  9.  Drives continuous process improvements to increase the efficiency of the environment.
  10. Manages the service transition of new technology into the desktop space. Adheres to the change management process when making desktop modifications.
  11. Ability to work on multiple assignments concurrently.
  12. Participates in cross departmental projects, provides input to project plans, and documents standards.
  13. Performs additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  1.  Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or combination of work experience and certifications in qualified fields (e.g. Help Desk and/or other technical background.) required.
  2.  5-7 years' related experience in the Information Technology field in a medium to large enterprise environment required. Experience should include server management, end user support, desktop patching practices, project leadership, systems administration, and associated technical tasks.
  3.  Experience in administration of the following technologies with a focus on automating repetitive tasks:

     *   Microsoft 365, Exchange, SharePoint, Azure AD.
     *   Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, including installation, configuration, securing, and scripting of Windows technologies.
     *   Configuration, deployment, and maintenance of desktop and laptop hardware from leading manufacturers.
     *   Troubleshooting common software packages such as Microsoft Office, web browsers, and common desktop software.
     *   User creation, maintenance, group policy, and security using Microsoft Active Directory.
     *   Thorough knowledge of software packaging and distribution.

  1.  Skilled in managing administrative desktop software solutions such as MECM/SCCM, anti-virus/spyware, inventory, and monitoring systems.
  2.  Experience with supporting hardware for desktops such as printers, multifunction devices, scanners and monitors.
  3.  Familiarity with networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and firewalls.
  4.  Certifications in a technology related field such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or equivalent.
  5.  Strong working knowledge of modern PC technology components and their relationships, including software, hardware, networking, applications, and peripherals. Intermediate networking and troubleshooting skills.
  6.  On-call 24x7 to respond to emergency calls regarding desktop and system support and to perform off-hours tasks as needed.
  7.  Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e. Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job related equipment and systems.
  8.  Valid driver license which meets the minimum requirements of CML's vehicle insurance policy and access to a personal vehicle to promptly report to varied work locations as assigned.
