The Dayton Metro Library is seeking a full-time Nonprofit Services Specialist to join the Information Services team at the Main Library in downtown Dayton. The ideal candidate will be an experienced relationship-builder with great networking skills. The ideal candidate will also have familiarity with grant funding, nonprofit creation and governance, and the challenges that nonprofits face today in a post-pandemic world. The new Nonprofit Services Specialist will support nonprofits in the community through leveraging the Library's assets through programs, events and collection resources.  This individual should be comfortable speaking to large audiences in order to promote the Library, whether it is at professional meetings or programs being offered through the Library. Essential Job Duties

  *   Coordinates the development of programs related to nonprofits and grants system-wide. Plans, implements and evaluates on-going programs and services and works with External Relations to prepare publicity. Participates in public relations activities such as tours, talks and demonstrations to promote library use.

*         Represents DML as a network partner with the Foundation Center Funding Information Network as detailed in the Standards of Operation for Network Partners. Provides service and maintains liaisons with community leaders, networking groups, and community agencies; attends community meetings and gives presentations as requested.

  *   Collaborates with and advises the Collection Development department on nonprofits and grants; makes recommendations for both selection and deselection in relevant subject areas.

*         Develops recommendations for nonprofit and grant services and provides input into policies affecting nonprofit groups.

*         Provides advice and recommendations to public service staff for developing and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for patrons interested in nonprofits and grants.

*         Displays knowledge of nonprofit community needs and keeps up with current trends.  Provides system-wide training which increases awareness and understanding of the needs of nonprofit organizations.



*         Provides patrons interested in nonprofits and grants with instruction in the use of library materials and resources, including the Foundation Directory Online. This can include assistance in reference, readers' advisory and resource navigation.

*         Sets and maintains guidelines and objectives for library staff who work with nonprofit and grants. Conducts meetings, trains and provides instruction and assistance for staff.

  *   Prepares, submits and analyzes required department reports and budgets. Ensures proper records management. Attends applicable department meetings. Assists with system-wide programs, activities and initiatives.

*         Performs other related duties as assigned. Such duties may include, but are not limited to, creating displays, maintaining online resources and performing circulation responsibilities.


Job Qualifications

  *   Advanced degree (Master's in Library and Information Science preferred) or its equivalent in education and experience is required.
  *   Valid Ohio driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and continuous insurability required.
  *   Ability to maintain effective relationships with community officials, leaders, organizations, the public and the staff.
  *   Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, patrons, and members of the community individually and in a group setting. Ability to deal effectively with confrontational individuals and/or challenging situations.
  *   Knowledge of nonprofit governance and organization principles, theories, concepts, best practices and the local and regional nonprofit and grants ecosystem.
  *   Knowledge of literature, periodicals, audiovisual materials, web sites, social media, and other electronic media which support a diverse, current, and relevant collection in support nonprofit and grants research.
  *   Ability to develop and deliver programs and services to meet community needs.
  *   Ability to connect with internal and external partners to positively impact nonprofit and grants initiatives.
  *   Schedule may include evening and Saturday hours.

Compensation and Benefits:  The hourly rate for this position ranges from $23.32 to $34.87.  Those with a relevant Master's degree may be entitled to a professional offset, which would increase the hourly rate.  Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance along with paid time off.
