[OPLINLIST] On order records

I think our patrons expect to find on-order titles in the catalog. No one reads the old James Patterson. They just want the newest one as soon as possible. If you don't have on-order titles, then they're going to buy inline at Walmart as soon they see it. At my last library were able to put the release date in the MARC; Sirsi is a little less flexible.

We are looking to start using on order records for our patrons. If you use on order records with your library, do your patrons find them useful? Or are they confused by being able to put a hold on an item that won’t be available to them for three or four months at least?
