MidPointe Library - Library Specialist – Full Time–Middletown Ohio



Our Middletown branch has an opening where you can use your youth programming skills and customer service skills to help our diverse community.



Do you enjoy planning & presenting a storytime to children or helping people find what they need?

If so, your days would include providing excellent customer service to the diverse population at the two service desks. You'll plan & present weekly programming for school outreach visits & events throughout the community. You’ll provide computer assistance; give reading recommendations; accept passport applications; & give instruction on how to use the online card catalog, the Internet, print station, e-readers & library research databases. You’ll process holds & reserves; sort; shelve; shelf read; & pull holds. As a member of the public services team, you'll work independently & work with co-workers. At times, in the absence of a supervisor, you'll function as person-in-charge.

To Be Successful, you will need:

  *   Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a college degree is highly desired
  *   Must be a U.S. citizen for passport duties
  *   Must have prior experience preparing & presenting storytimes, programs, & events
  *   Must be friendly, approachable & provide a positive library experience to patrons of all ages
  *   Must have excellent customer service, a strong service ethic, excellent problem-solving skills & adapt rapidly to change
  *   Must have computer experience that includes MS Office, the Internet & ideally the library catalog & research databases
  *   Need to be able to independently (& with others), quickly & favorably respond to new or changed responsibilities &/or situations & be able to prioritize & handle confidential information
  *   Have an excellent knowledge of literature for youth, teens & adults
  *   Must be able to learn & carry out the responsibilities of the position
  *   Must be able to effectively read (including cursive), write, speak, & understand English
  *   Regular and predictable physical attendance is required

Hours:

40 hours per week with a varying schedule that includes days, evenings, and weekends.


Rate of Pay:

The pay range for this job is $15.74 - $24.89 per hour. The pay rate depends on experience.

Physical Requirement:

-Must have manual dexterity sufficient to meet job requirements which includes operating library equipment including the conveyor belt check-in system and basic troubleshooting.

-Must have the ability to move book crates that could weigh up to 75 pounds when full and move book carts that could weigh up to 200 pounds when full.

-Must be able to work in areas that may contain cleaning odors, dust, or other possible allergens.
