The Dayton Metro Library is recruiting a full-time External Relations and Development Director.  This position oversees many critical functions, including marketing, public relations, events, government relations, and fundraising.  The successful candidate will cultivate community partnerships as well as donors.  They serve as the liaison to the Library’s Foundation and Friends of the Library organization. They are the Library’s liaison to media outlets and will oversee any future levy campaigns. This position reports to the Executive Director and enjoys an office at the Main Library. Essential Job Duties

  *   Serves as the chief development officer of the library.  Establishes effective, goals, policies and procedures for grant seeking and fundraising, donor tracking and recognition.
  *   Develops and effectively projects the library brand identity through an effective system-wide marketing and promotional strategy including the development and successful execution of key messages, development materials, fundraising events and other public relations activities.
  *   Coordinates capital campaign planning and execution, including donor cultivation. Organizes solicitation, recognition, and stewardship of individuals, foundations and business supporters.
  *   Identifies potential grant fund resources and prepares government and foundation grant proposals with assistance of staff and other community support.
  *   Represents the library to the media by acting as chief spokesperson.  Fields and directs responses to media-related inquiries.  Writes or reviews news releases and public service announcements.
  *   Ensures the supervision and reviews of department employees. Establishes, prepares, implements, and monitors department budget.
  *   Oversees the development of ideas and opportunities for feature articles, interviews and presentations. Reviews content developed by others. Ensures production of content for print, electronic and broadcast media publication and distribution.
  *   Oversees all levy activities.
  *   Works with department staff on development of record-keeping and database management. Ensures accurate and timely maintenance of donor records and records.
  *   Implements Library policies and procedures at the department level. Participates in policy revision and in the formulation of policies and procedures. Interprets Library policies to staff with a patron-responsive management perspective.
  *   Serves as a member of the Executive Director’s cabinet. Participates and contributes to system-wide decision and making and policy development through consistent information sharing, regular attendance at manager’s meetings and service on committees.



Job Qualifications

  *   Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience at a professional level, and supervisory experience preferred. AFP membership expected. CFRE credentials preferred.
  *   Valid Ohio driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and continuous insurability required. Ability to periodically drive vehicle.
  *   Demonstrated and progressive experience in fundraising and development, with significant foundation, corporate and major gift experience preferred. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with active and potential donors, community officials, leaders, organizations, the public, the media, and the staff.
  *   Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, policy and procedure manuals, and governmental regulations.
  *   Ability to write reports and business correspondence clearly and informatively.
  *   Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, patrons, members of the community, and members of the media individually and in a group setting.
  *   Ability to deal effectively with confrontational individuals and/ or challenging situations.
  *   Ability to apply marketing tools and techniques in a wide range of print, online and social media contexts.
  *   Ability to evaluate and acquire advertising and develop earned media opportunities.
  *   Ability to plan, schedule and oversee department operations and personnel.
  *   Ability to provide leadership to staff responsible for electronic resources and communications tools, graphic design software, content management system and office software.  Ability to learn new technology system functions used in carrying out job duties.



Compensation and Benefits:  The salary range for this position is $97,230 to $162,107.  Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance along with paid time off and OPERS retirement.
