[OPLINLIST] Reminder - Invitation to Participate in a Research Study about Consumer Health Information

Share your Librarian Experience about Patrons' Health Information Needs by the end of August.

Dear Library Professional,

Improved health literacy is a Healthy People 2030 goal. Personal health literacy is individuals' ability to find, understand, and use health information to make informed health-related decisions and actions (U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2022). Public librarians create environments that support health literacy and help patrons with health-information seeking behaviors like searching/seeking information, browsing, finding, and using information to fulfill a specific need.

A consumer health librarian from The Ohio State University Hospital Health Sciences Library for Health Information, a nurse scientists from the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare, and a State Library of Ohio data and research consultant are interested in exploring your perceived consumer health information needs. Your participation is voluntary, and there are no incentives for participation. If you decide to participate, you will complete a web-based survey. We estimate the survey completion time to be 20 minutes.

Purpose of the research study

The purpose of this research study is to explore consumer health information needs by conducting an exploratory needs assessment survey in a convenience sample of Ohio public librarians.

Who is conducting this research study?
The research study is being led by Dr. Jacqueline Hoying, PhD, RN, NBC-HWC, FNAP, Assistant Clinical Professor, The Ohio State University College of Nursing, Director, MINDSTRONG(tm)/ MINDBODYSTRONG(tm) Program, Director, Community Core, Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for EBP.

Confidentiality
There is a strict data protection plan in place. Your survey responses will be de-identified.

Eligibility
You are eligible to participate if you are working as a librarian, library manager/director, or library staff working in a public Ohio library and you are at least 18 years old. Library volunteers are not eligible to participate.
