The Dayton Metro Library is seeking a full-time LGBTQIA+ Services Specialist to be part of our EDI Department.  The successful candidate will offer a varied schedule of programs that appeal to LGBTQIA+ patrons and organizations in the community, and they will also provide Ally+ training (and more) to staff members.  The ideal candidate will embed themselves in LGBTQIA+ community in Dayton and its surrounding communities.  Join our team today!

Essential Job Duties

*         Coordinates the development of direct services for the LGBTQIA+ community and related initiatives system-wide. Plans, implements, and evaluates ongoing services and works with various departments across the Library to ensure the delivery of responsive services and inclusive environments.

*         Develops and maintains community partnerships to address the needs of the LGBTQIA+ community. Serves as a liaison with community leaders, community agencies, and networking groups. Attends community meetings, and events, and gives presentations as requested.

*         Develops, delivers, and/or coordinates ongoing system-wide LGBTQIA+ and Ally+ training to increase awareness, understanding, and responsiveness to LGBTQIA+ community needs throughout the organization. Establishes and maintains guidelines and objectives for Library staff who work with the LGBTQIA+ community. Conducts meetings, and workshops, and provides instruction and assistance for staff.

*         Provides advice and recommendations on public service policies and practices to develop and maintain a welcoming atmosphere for LGBTQIA+ patrons and community partners. Displays knowledge of and communicates current trends for equitable and inclusive practices to serve LGBTQIA+ patrons.

*         Supports system-wide programming efforts such as Pride Month, LGBT History Month, and the Social Justice Speaker Series.

*         Contributes to the EDI Department as a thought-partner to ensure inclusive environments for LGBTQIA+ staff. Provides strategic support for the employee resource group, and recruitment efforts as needed. Displays knowledge of and communicates current trends for equitable and inclusive practices to serve LGBTQIA+ staff members.

*         Collaborates with and advises Collection Development on LGBTQIA+ topics and issues and related collections and resources; makes recommendations for both selection and deselection in relevant subject areas across all age ranges.

*         Provides LGBTQIA+ users with instruction in the use of library materials and resources. This can include assistance in reference, readers' advisory and resource navigation.

*         Prepares, submits and analyzes required department reports and budgets. Ensures proper records management. Attends applicable department meetings. Assists with system-wide programs, activities and initiatives.

Job Qualifications

  *   Valid Ohio driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and continuous insurability required.
  *   Advanced degree (Master's in Library and Information Science) or its equivalent in education and experience is required.
  *   Knowledge of diversity principles, theories, concepts, best practices and the local and regional LGBTQIA+ community.
  *   Knowledge of literature, periodicals, audiovisual materials, websites, social media, and other electronic media which support a diverse, current, and relevant collection in support of LGBTQIA+ topics.
  *   Ability to maintain effective relationships with community officials, leaders, organizations, the public and the staff.
  *   Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reference resources, general business periodicals, professional journals, policy and procedure manuals, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence clearly and informatively.
  *   Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, patrons, and members of the community individually and in a group setting.
  *   Ability to deal effectively with confrontational individuals and/or challenging situations.
  *   Ability to develop services and programs to meet community needs. Ability to prepare and administer budgets. Ability to develop and deliver programs.
  *   Ability to connect with internal and external partners to positively impact LGBTQIA+ initiatives.

  *   Schedule may include evening and Saturday hours, especially to support scheduled programs.

Compensation and Benefits:  The starting hourly rate for this position is $24.02.  (Those applicants with a relevant Master's degree may qualify for the professional offset, which would increase the hourly rate by $2.88 per hour.)   Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance along with paid time off and OPERS retirement.
