A Note From the
Executive Director

Last Thursday, May 4th, I had the privilege of facilitating Supervising with Confidence, the second in-person workshop of the 2023 New Supervisors’ Academy. During the workshop, participants had an opportunity to assess their strengths and possible areas of improvement as new supervisors and apply necessary skills with hands-on group activities. Throughout the day, I heard participants share stories, advice, and an empathetic ear with their peers. Even more than the content of the workshop, I hope that everyone walked away knowing they are not alone in their struggles as new supervisors. Facilitating this workshop was a full-circle moment for me as an alum of the 2018 academy. I started the academy just a few weeks into my supervisor role and in that brief time, I had already faced many unexpected challenges.

While the skills and knowledge that I came away with were extremely helpful in those early days, the opportunity to share mutual struggles with my fellow new supervisors was invaluable.

The 2023 cohort will continue the academy with webinars and in-person workshops through November. I look forward to seeing this group again to wrap up their journey with an important last session on prioritizing self-care as a new supervisor.
