Excellence in Children's Literature: The Ohio State University Newbery Award Symposium

When: Friday, Nov. 15, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
Where: Ohio Union, The Ohio State University

This daylong event will feature Kwame Alexander, author of The Crossover and The Undefeated; Derrick Barnes, author of Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut; Amina Luqman-Dawson, author of Freewater; Jason Reynolds, author of Long Way Down; and Carole Boston Weatherford, author of Box: Henry Brown Mails Himself to Freedom.



Three Newbery-winning authors will give keynote addresses, and four will lead breakout sessions to discuss the creative process, explain how they conduct research related to their topics and offer suggestions for developing writing expertise.  



Authors will autograph books, and several titles will be raffled to participants. A panel discussion with all five authors will be moderated by Jonda C. McNair, the Charlotte S. Huck Endowed Professor of Children’s Literature.
