*The Opportunity*
The Board of Trustees of the Kirtland Public Library [KPL] is seeking a
community-focused, collaborative leader to serve as their next *Library
Director*. This mission-critical position reports to a seven-member Board,
guides a dedicated staff of 13, oversees a nearly $1,000,000 operating
budget, and is responsible for the overall daily operation and oversight of
the library’s departments, collections, services, programs, and facilities.
The Library Director is tasked with nurturing positive and meaningful
professional relationships with KPL’s Board, staff, and patrons. Also, as
the chief representative and face of the library system, the Library
Director represents the library in the community and industry by making
presentations, serving on local committees and boards, and seeking
opportunities to maintain and expand the Library’s reputation as a vital
community partner and resource.
In addition to organizing, directing, and evaluating all library functions,
operations, and activities, the Library Director will prioritize the
development and implementation of strategic initiatives,
fundraising/resource management, civic engagement, staff development, and
championing strong customer service standards.
*About the Library and Community*
The Kirtland Public Library opened its doors in October 1937 in a single
room at Kirtland Elementary School, with a collection built from community
donations. As collections and services expanded, the Library moved to
larger spaces in 1967 and 1982, introducing popular traditions such as
preschool story times and summer reading programs. The Friends of the
Kirtland Public Library formed in 1983, strengthening community support
through fundraising and volunteer service. A successful $1.5 million
capital campaign, supported by major donors, the Friends, and more than 60%
of households in the service area, led to the opening of a dedicated
14,700-square-foot library in November 1992. The Library joined CLEVNET in
1998, expanding access to shared collections and resources, and continued
enhancing services through new technology and spaces for young children. In
2007, residents of Kirtland, Kirtland Hills, and Waite Hill approved the
Library’s first property tax levy, continuing a longstanding tradition of
community investment. Today, the Library is a central gathering place and
focal point for the communities it serves. The mission of the Kirtland
Public Library is to provide materials, services, and programs to help
community residents meet their personal, educational, and aspirational
needs. To learn more, visit: kirtland.lib.oh.us
