One thing to watch out for is that you cannot ghost/clone Windows XP PC's
without a special license from Microsoft that costs additional. Windows XP
is just a pretty Windows 2000 interface and in fact you can make it look
like 2000 by right clicking on the start menu and choosing properties and
changing the settings.
Here is a good document from a school how they set it up which may give you
some ideas:
http://www.davis.k12.ut.us/ets/XP_Setup_Instructions.pdf
The thing to brush up on is Policies and Profiles.
See this document from Microsoft on how to prevent rogue software being
installed on the units(link may wrap to next line so be sure to get it all)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechn
ol/winxppro/maintain/rstrplcy.asp
And the Guide to Policies and Profiles (Says Windows NT but XP/2000 are
based on NT and pretty much the same)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;161334
I have a lot of the policy templates on my site at
http://thethin.net/tsdownload.cfm you may be able to use also it depends on
what your servers are.

Subject: [OPLINTECH] Windows XP newbie
Our library recently purchased some new computers and began the upgrade
path to Windows XP Professional. The little I've worked with it so far
makes me cringe with anticipation. Does anyone have any tutorials or
helpful hints on XP for the new administrator setting up machines for
staff users that they would be willing to share?
Many thanks.
