Library Job Opening at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center


Position:  Assistant Librarian

The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center seeks a service-oriented
librarian to join a team of dedicated individuals in providing access to a
variety of library materials, including books, manuscripts, and online
indexes, all dealing with history.  The Hayes Presidential Museum/Library
was established in 1916, and included the country’s first presidential
library. It is located on the 25-acre historic Spiegel Grove site, in
Fremont, Ohio - close to Toledo and Cleveland.  It is also affiliated with
the Ohio Historical Society, established in 1885.

Principal duties:
Responsible for original cataloging of 19th and 20th century printed and
manuscript materials and supervision of copy cataloging. Work closely with
head librarian, archivist and photo curator to provide access to printed and
digitized materials via cataloging and web publication. Supervise serial
acquisition and collection development. Share in reference and broad ranging
general library duties and provide support for team projects as required

Qualifications:
·	Required: ALA-accredited MLS degree, with original cataloging experience.
Must have skills to provide access to digital information through the Web.
Must be a self-directed, innovative and flexible team player, able to meet
goals, with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
·	Desired:  3 - 5 years cataloging experience with OCLC.  Knowledge of 19th
century American and Ohio history and genealogy. Extensive technical skills
including word processing, database management, web-based technologies,
HTML, digitizing equipment.

Salary: Low $30,000’s and benefits.

Job setting: Dynamic special library which is a part of a complex dedicated
to the life and times of President Hayes, including a museum, mansion and 25
acre park.  Collections center on 19th century American history, the Gilded
Age, Ohio local history, and genealogy.
