2.	Who is your anti-virus software vendor  McAffee and also Trend for
our Exchange Server  

3.	Does your anti-virus software block spam   It can, but we do not
have it turned on.   

4.	Do you use a computer management/security product   Yes we use
Altiris Deployment Solution for all of our desktops 

5.	Who is your vendor  Varies. CDW+G, Business Smarts, Anixter, Xitech,
Mcaffee, Trend 

6.	Do you use a pay-for-print product   No, we feel that there is no
cost savings involved in this method. By the time you paid for the service
you could of bought a lot of paper and given it out for free. 

7.	Who is you pay-for-print vendor  Not applicable  

8.	Do you use a reservation product  Part of our catalog   

9.	Who is your reservation product vendor  III  

10.	Do you use a filtering product  No we do not filter  

11.	Who is your filtering product vendor 
 
Comments, recommendations, reviews would be appreciated.
We use Trend Scanmail for our exchange server and have never been hit with a
virus in our email system over the last 3 years. That has something to say
about it. 
They have a product called Emanager that is an add on that is a spam/content
blocker that works very good.  
 
Small libraries should look at the Mcaffee E500 or E1000 antivirus solution.
It is a hardware solution that will watch your internet connection for
viruses etc. 
A really excellent spam blocking product is IHATESPAM by sunbelt software.
They have a server and a workstation version for Outlook/Outlook Express. I
personally use the workstation version. 
 
Libraries should begin to look at the new Embedded XP clients coming out on
the market for patron terminals. These units run a disk on chip that is
basically immune from getting a virus because it can't be written to once
the image is on there. HP just came out with a great unit (T5000 I think)
These units have Internet Explorer and enough room on them for plugins like
acrobat and other apps. We are currently using NetX ( www.netxinc.com
<http://www.netxinc.com> ) embedded thin clients and they have worked out
quite well. Both the NetX and the HP devices are managed using Altiris which
we have standardized on. Altiris not only lets you image these units quickly
but you can remote control and push out software changes to any client on
your network that has the altiris client on it. 
 
One filtering company I like is Pearl Software at http://www.pearlsw.com/
<http://www.pearlsw.com/>  other filters I have had recommended are
SurfControl and GFI Mail Essentials for Exchange for anti spam.
 
A good firewall is always a necessity. We use Watchguard here at the
library. It does have Web and SMTP filtering capability however we do not
use it due to the amount of traffic on our network.
