ITSD Network Services Customer Update - June 11, 2004


Scheduled Maintenance:

Tuesday, June 15, 2004, 3:00 - 6:00am

ITSD network engineers will be performing maintenance on the primary and
backup Internet border routers.  Customers may experience intermittent
connectivity issues during the maintenance.

Completed Maintenance:

None.


Domain Name System Procedure: (Update)

Effective June 11, 2004 all DNS requests that are received in the
Network Operations Center, after 4:00pm, Monday through Friday will be
processed the next business day.  Any requests received after 4:00pm on
Friday will be processed the following business day (Monday) to take
effect on Tuesday.

 
Non-TCP/IP Protocols:

Included in the Office of Information Technology's Long Range Plan is
provide a TCP/IP only ohio.gov backbone.  Our goal is to remove all
Non-TCP/IP protocols (DECnet, SNA, IPX, Appletalk, etc.).  ITSD network
engineers will be contacting agencies, boards and commissions, in the
near future, that are still using Non-TCP/IP protocols, to work with
them on determining an alternate solution.

 
Security Assessment:

ITSD is currently undergoing a Security Assessment and Risk analysis.
An outside vendor has been contracted to conduct this study for ITSD as
well as thirteen other state entities.  To minimize network impact, the
assessment towards networking devices and critical equipment will be
conducted during the next three maintenance windows that occur from 3:00
am to 6:00 a.m. every Tuesday.
