I recently installed PDF-XChange for one of my branches as an alternative. There is a free version, a paid version, and a Plus paid version.

Very nice breakdown of the differences. Paid is $62. Plus is $79. I think the main difference in the paid versions is that the Plus license lets you create fillable PDFs. The license is one payment, lifetime perpetual use. The free version lets you try out the premium version options, but the document does put big DEMO labels on the corners if you save the document, so don't try it with any production documents. Doesn't add them if you're just printing the PDF though!
