[OPLINTECH] Faxing Options

Our VOIP provider, Konica Minolta, offers an eFax solution that was very easy to get set up. All it required was an email to be set up for each branch of our library that did faxes. There is a web UI to log into with that email and from there it is basically attaching a PDF to an email. The only issue we've really had is that it requires the entire document be uploaded before it starts to send. If a patron gave you an incorrect fax number and the job was 15 pages, they might be sitting there for 10 minutes or so before it errors out.

I bought ScanSnap 2500 scanners for all my branch front desks so they could scan documents to separate computers just in case the main computer was in use for something else. That step may have been a bit overkill, but now any of the staff computers can be used to fax something.

Currently we are still charging $1/page not counting the cover page, but that price was to combat AT&T's exorbitant charges for POTS lines. Depending on our levy vote in November, we will most likely do away with charges.

Subject: [OPLINTECH] Faxing Options

Howdy OPLIN Tech Group,

We have never implemented faxing services for our patrons. There was a small-town grocery that offered the service near a few of our locations, so we would guide patrons to those grocery stores for faxing needs. We've heard that the grocery is doing away with that service, and we get the question frequently enough that we want to figure out if this is a service we should add.

Right now, I'm in the research and budgeting phase. Trying to figure out what options exist and how much we should budget for this sort of project for next year.

I'm aware of online free faxing services. The workflow is far from easy, especially for less tech-savvy individuals. Getting physical paperwork scanned digitally, then uploading it to a website, is still a difficult workflow for many.

I have also heard about this option: https://faxscan24.com/ (https://faxscan24.com/)

I believe some libraries already use this service, and we've reached out to the vendor to get more information.

What does everyone else use for faxing? Do you charge patrons for faxing? If so, how much? Do you use the FaxScan24 product? If so, what is your experience with it?

Thank you in advance for all feedback!

Thanks,
Joe
