*Editoria11y Content Checker FAQ*
*1.* *Our Editoria11y dashboard suddenly has new errors. Where did they
come from? *There are generally two (2) ways that new errors appear in the
dashboard:
a. New content was created or old content was edited so that new errors
now exist, or
b. An older content item was suddenly synced to the report because
someone viewed it.
*2.* *Wait, Editoria11y doesn’t crawl our entire site?* No; it checks
content but cannot crawl the site the way that, for example, a Google bot
does. If someone visits content that has not been visited in a long time,
that page may sync with Editoria11y, meaning new errors might appear in its
dashboard.
*3.* *What about the pop-up message I see when I log in? There are no
errors in my dashboard, but the pop-up is still appearing.* The modules
that provide the Editoria11y content checker and the pop-up message are
completely separate. This means OPLIN must manually disable the pop-up (for
now). Connecting the two with custom scripting is on our radar, but we
don’t have an ETA for that. If you’re seeing the pop-up and your
Editoria11y dashboard is clear, please let Laura Solomon (
laura at oplin.ohio.gov) know and she’ll take care of it.
*4.* *I see an error in the dashboard but I don’t have access to the
content it refers to. Now what? *Contact Laura (see above) who can assist.
*5.* *I fixed an error but it’s still showing in the Editoria11y
dashboard. Help!* This doesn’t happen very often but, when it does, please
let Laura know and she can force Editoria11y to re-sync that content.
*6. **I don’t understand what Editoria11y is telling me about videos. How
do I make sure captions are accurate? And do I really need a transcript?*
While some video hosting services like YouTube automatically provide
captions, that doesn’t mean they translate what is said accurately. (Here
at OPLIN, we are well-accustomed to editing captions, because YouTube
always interprets “OPLIN” as “Oakland.” 😬) You will need to listen and edit
the captions
<https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2734705?hl=en#zippy=> to ensure
that what is said matches what is printed on the screen. Transcripts are
almost always required. If you are using Zoom, it will create these
automatically for you. You will still need to check it to make sure it is
accurate and that it includes any information about anything visually
presented. Learn more about transcripts

*7. **We have a third-party carousel widget that pulls content from our
catalog. It’s being flagged for having one or more errors. What do we do?*
Automated checkers, like Editoria11y, cannot check “inside” a third-party
widget like this. It requires manual keyboard and screen reader testing.
Please contact Laura Solomon about these types of warnings.
*8. Does Editoria11y catch all accessibility errors? *No automated
accessibility checker can catch 100% of possible errors. Editoria11y does a
pretty good job, but it cannot guarantee that it spots everything.
